Embodying Christ All the Time

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned growing up in church is not just being a Christian on Sundays. This concept includes going to church and being “holier than thou,” and then spending all the other days of the year being rude, mean, and just not living your life for Christ. One of the greatest examples of someone that is not just a Christian on Sundays is Candace Cameron Bure.

Bure is one of my favorite actresses of all time, and is someone that I look up to. If you’re not sure who I’m talking about, she has starred in many Hallmark movies, played DJ Tanner on Full House and Fuller House, and competed on the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars. I obviously wasn’t born when Full House came out, but I vividly remember Bure competing on DWTS. Even though DWTS is one of my all-time favorite shows, one can argue that some of the costumes worn on that show are a little bit “sexy,” and in all seriousness, that argument is probably a valid one. Bure was very vocal about this when she said that she’s not going to be “that sexy girl,” and that she’s going for a more modest approach. Good Morning America actually did a small segment on their show about this, and in one of the clips they showed, Bure said she was going to be vocal about the costumes, because of her relationship with Jesus Christ. If you watch the dances that Bure and her partner Mark Ballas competed, Bure’s costumes are more modest than some of the other women on the show. Despite this, Bure made it all the way to the finals placing third.

Even when Bure was competing on a popular television show, she still remembered her relationship with Jesus Christ. She didn’t forget about it just to get votes, or to get more fans. She put the relationship first, and she didn’t stop being a Christian just because.

Just like Bure, it’s important for us to embody this idea as well. When we’re put in situations where we can easily forget our Christian values, it’s important not to. Jesus wants us to live our lives for Him all the time, not just when it’s convenient for us. It also might be easier for us to just do what everyone else is doing, instead of sticking by what Jesus has taught us all the time.

This is something that I’m still working on, as I’m trying to remember to embody Christ in all aspects of my life. Not just in situations when I know I’m with someone else that’s a Christian, or in situations where I’m the most comfortable.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

This verse just adds to this idea. It’s important to remember and embody our Christian values even when it’s difficult.
