Why We Celebrate Easter

Why do we celebrate Easter?

Many people think that Easter is all about baskets of candy, bunnies, and eggs, but that’s not what Easter is about at all.

Easter is the day that we as Christians remember the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The resurrection of Jesus is at the heart of our faith, and I think Paul explains it perfectly when he writes this:

“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Those, then, who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished. If we have put our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone. But as it is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
- 1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:17-20‬ ‭

It is by Jesus’ victory over the grave that He gave us hope that death doesn’t have to be the end. So on this Easter day let’s meditate on some verses that remind us of our source of hope as a Christian.

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
- John‬ ‭11:25-26‬ ‭

“Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.” - Romans‬ ‭6:4‬ ‭

“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will not die again. Death no longer rules over him. For the death he died, he died to sin once for all time; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” - Romans‬ ‭6:8-11‬ ‭

“For the love of Christ compels us, since we have reached this conclusion, that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them and was raised.” - 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:14-15‬ ‭
